The European Patent Convention (EPC)

The European Patent Convention (EPC), is a multilateral treaty instituting the European Patent Organisation and provides an autonomous legal system according to which European patents are granted. The term European patent is used to refer to patents granted under the EPC. The European Patent Office (EPO) provides a uniform application procedure for individual inventors and companies seeking patent protection in up to 38 European countries. It is the executive arm of the European Patent Organisation and is supervised by the Administrative Council.
